Summation of ESG as a Way Forward

AN intelligent interpretation of a vigorous discourse, by one of our Malaysian Association of Public Advocacy for Nature (MAPAN) founding member, Roland Wong.

ESG is robust, to be what it is, to withstand the challenge on its merits.

IN #malaysia, we see an invisible hand, in the emergence of the proposed National Sustainability Reporting Framework (NSRF) that consolidates all the known international #environmentalsocialandgovernance elements in a piece of document.

WITH the imminent amendment to the Companies Act 2016, audit of non-financial statement will soon be a norm.

IF #esg is so important, it must have a legal teeth to bite on non-compliance to perfect its envisaged cycles of #equity, #inclusivity, #integrity, #universality and #transparency.

PERFORMANCE on generally accepted principles has to be measurable to bind those concerned, with the balance left to the unknown in the universe.

ACCOUNTING is a worldwide documentation of actions (and non-actions) within recognised foundations. Hence, every #sustainability report should coterminous with accounting period and subject to the same audit requirement.

ESG reporting, in that sense, is a counter-checking mechanism to fortify the substance of financial transactions to preserve not only the mother earth but also enriching the experience of every living creature.
