Carbon Credits & The Climate Conundrum by Ts. Raja Shazrin Shah

A comprehensive write by the founding member of Malaysian Association of Public Advocacy for Nature (MAPAN), Adj. Prof. Ts Raja Shazrin Shah Raja Ehsan Shah.

It is worth noting that:

1. #carbonoffset is an interim #mitigation for #hardtoabate or #unabated#co2 but not a #licence to perpetual #pollution;

2. Tropical #rainforest of #malaysia shall be the mainstay of #qualitycarbon for #malaysian market;

3. The definition of #quality in #carbontrading must be clearcut and conducive to advancing #circulareconomy, i.e. How does 100 years fit into domestic #wastetowealth horizon?

4. Without a locally generated national stockpile of #saleablecarbon aligning to #ndc, #agenda2030 and #netzero2050, #malaysia will heavily drain its #forex with a peril on its continual economic growth;

5. How will the 100 years quality threshold aids in the case of #carbonneutrality say if #malaysian#forests are only registered with #Verra, #goldstandard, etc. next year onwards whilst its #netzeroemission is slotted for 2050?

6. Will #bcx be doing good for #malaysia and in a position to command active global trading transacting #credits that expire in 2124 (2024+100) when most nations would have long gone past their #netzero commitment, even if backdating is applied?
