| On 24th June 2023, Sunway University’s Sustainable Business Research Cluster held the 2nd International Seminar of MSMEs in Developing Countries. The theme was “Technology Adoption by MSMEs”.
MAPAN Pacesetting ESG delivered the keynote address where he highlighted the 3 #csfs of #technologyadoption for MSMEs:
1. #ppp (Public Private Partnerships), ie., strong collaboration between #government, #industry and #academia;
2. #Incentives and #grants to drive #digitaltransformation;
3. The availability of #costeffective and #timeefficient business solutions for operational #processautomation.
From ESG angles, Ben talked about 5 sustainable business segments that Msian #msmes can play roles of excellence in.
Speakers, moderators and participants came from #Indonesia, #India, Nigeria, Korea, #Nepal, #SouthAfrica and #Malaysia.
Dr Ko Kyung Young, Research Professor of #Korea University’s ASEAN Centre presented two case studies of Swingvy and OKXE Inc. growth trajectory on adopting #onlinesolutions and offering #cloudbasedservices.
Sunway’s PhD scholars, Nor Syazwani Rosman gave all an overview of research done and being conducted in the arena of #digitalisation of #smes, while Trevor Anton shared his studies on the food service #microbusinesses in Msia and their technology adoption trend.
Dr Timi Olubiyi of the National Open University of #Nigeria presented his paper on the empirical evidence of SMEs adopting digital channels in his home country.
Dr Sameer Kharel of the Global College International, Kathmandu, gave an overview of the key drivers for SMEs accepting and using ICT in Nepal.
Mr William Loh of Emerald Publishing enlightened us with the publications of latest research and journals available in the MSME space and the means to reach out to audiences looking for published resources.
Malaysian Association of Public Advocacy for Nature (MAPAN) IOT and AI subject matter expert, J.M. Wang talked about IoT and ESG friendly tech solutions for MSMEs, and Banker Emily Kok deliberated on #fintech and #saas services available to MSMEs today.
Prof Dr Himachalam Dasaraju, founding member of the #GlobalAssociationforMSMEsinDevelopingCountries concluded the seminar with a wrap on the key takeaways and ongoing research agenda required in this field.
Prof Tulus Tambunan, Head of Universitas Trisakti’s Centre for SME and Industry Competition Studies and Prof Susela Devi Suppiah, Head of Sunway University’s Sustainable Business Research Cluster, both delivered the opening and ending speeches.
